Pumpkin Patch Kids

Last week, on Adam's day off, we headed out to enjoy a gorgeous evening at the pumpkin patch.  We got there, and **Brooks was just giddy to be able to run around, pointing out different "punkins" and throwing all the rocks his heart desired. Ava was content being on Daddy's chest. :) After we found a few pumpkins (orange, green, and white...all good in my book) we hauled them, along with Brooks and Ava, in the wagon to weigh our choice gourds on the scale and pay.  Then we took a few too-cute-to-resist photos of our pumpkin patch kids. Cheers to festive traditions! And this week we'll be painting and carving those bad boys...gold and silver will be involved... and I think Brooks is going to love it. :)

** Overall, Brooks was so happy running around the pumpkin patch, but little did we know his sad sniffles he had that day would turn into a dreaded cold (so the sucker probably wasn't a good call;).  Sickness doesn't get keep him down or ruin his spirits, just another reason I love that kid. He's been able to recuperate thanks to a rather low-key weekend...except when he helped me mow the lawn on Saturday, that kid thrives on being outside!  He's on the mend though. Daddy got a bit of the bug yesterday, but neither Ava or I have caught anything. Knock on wood! And thank goodness for bubble baths and our pumpkin souvenirs on our front porch that put smiles on my sweet boy's face. :)

A few minutes of summer

I am absolutely loving fall.  The cool autumn weather calls for jackets and scarves, visiting a pumpkin patch is on the agenda, and hot chocolate always hits the spot.

But today for some reason I missed summer, and got a little homesick for the NW too. So I re-watched a video made of our friends, the Stevens, this past summer in Portland and it made me all sorts of happy. Adam is the handsome husband/daddy in the film, an old friend from Washington. :) And I'm so glad I can call his always-gorgeous wife my friend too! They're parents to their little stud muffin Jude, and you can see in the movie how much they absolutely love him. The man behind the camera is another old friend from Washington, the very talented Phil Goodwin. He captured a wonderful "day in the life" of their sweet family. Some simple and some pretty fantastic activities, all in the lovely city of Portland. Watching it I wanted to stay at each place longer! Phil caught priceless moments...and I still can't get over the rad transitions in his filming from scene to scene...watch it and you'll see. And I dare you not to smile. :)

Oh and it was Britney's birthday yesterday! Like I told you before Brit, how I'd love to be in Portland so I could treat you to lunch and then watch 'New Girl' and 'Parenthood' with you while we devour a giant chocolate cake from Costco. A girl can wish right? :)

4 Silhouettes + 4 Spiders

It's pretty awesome what you can do with photos, rope, painted dollar store candle holders, and a few pipe-cleaner spiders.  I'm pretty happy with the monochromatic Halloween display on our mantel. :)

I got the inspiration for the photo banner from here...just gathered a few old photos of fall and Halloweens gone by, turned them black and white using this app, ordered them as 5x7"s, cut off the corners, glued them onto some black card stock for a clean look, then strung it up!

And my favorite part, two brand new silhouettes of our Littles! This year I used a different method than last year...I just took profile shots of the children, ordered 8x10"s of each, cut them out and painted them black, then put the silhouettes on the canvases. Just a few steps, and makes such a statement. I love them. :)

As you can see, Brooks really enjoys looking at the photos on the banner...his favorite is of him and his cousin Samson at the pumpkin patch last year, he practically pulled it off the rope he was so excited! ;) All of the photos just ooze with Halloween-goodness and sweet memories of fall time.

I'm sharing this over at Whipperberry...go check out other fantastic projects, recipes, and creations people are sharing! :)

Our Family's 2011

I had so much fun putting this post together last week, gathering pictures and picking my favorite posts with such wonderful memories. There are a lot of links...as you can see I'm not very good at summarizing ;)

While looking back I couldn't help but feel so blessed for what an incredible year 2011 has been to our family!! The title of our blog summarizes it perfectly...LIFE IS SWEET...not perfect, but incredibly sweet.

Spiritual Health:
The last few days I've let scripture study slip through my fingers, but before I could post this I knew I needed to read! John 13 is an incredible chapter...Christ washing his disciples feet...and then he shares the beautiful commandment to "...love one another; as I have loved you."

Physical Health:
Yikes, same as above...but this is one tired momma who's going to make up for it tomorrow :)

white pumpkins, sunshine, and grilled cheese sandwiches

Brooks and I enjoyed a fun, incredibly sunny afternoon on Wednesday at Pack Farms Pumpkin Patch with our friends Kira, Grant, and Avery :) I even got some video! Sorry it's so incredibly pixelated, but it still shares a sweet memory nonetheless. Different from our first pumpkin picking last week, this time we got a huge cinderella pumpkin and two white pumpkins (they're fantastic!). And after hauling away our orange and white goods, Kira was so sweet to have us over for a delicious lunch of grilled cheese and tomato soup. It was a perfect afternoon :)

{ picture above: notice the "L" that's MIA? haha }

(yesterday's) Spiritual Health:
"Opening Our Hearts" by Gerald N. Lund
"...the condition of our hearts directly affects our sensitivity to spiritual things. Let us make it a part of our everyday striving to open our hearts to the Spirit. Since we are the guardians of our hearts, we can choose to do so. We choose what we let in or hold out. Fortunately the Lord is anxious to help us choose wisely."

(yesterday's) Physical Health:
20 minutes on the elliptical, then crunches and squats (Brooks totally "helped" be with both of those. He'd try to sit on my belly during the crunches. And he'd squat and jump with me my while doing squats. LOL)
