Sweet Grandpa

I absolutely love it when one of my five senses brings back a flood of memories to my mind and heart...today it was the scent of my cinnamon raisin bread in the toaster. The smell and taste of those delicious pieces of toast made me think of my sweet Grandpa Anderson. I honestly can't remember a specific time of eating it with him, but I can remember special times growing up when my Mom (she always knows how to make something ordinary, like bread, extra special) would buy cinnamon raisin bread at the store "in honor" of Grandpa, because he absolutely loved it :) Makes my heart smile just thinking about it.
The photo below was taken just days after Brooks was born...
and just a few months before my sweet Grandpa passed away. He lived a long, beautiful life. And is now with my Grandma, his beautiful wife, after 35 years of being apart :)
Thank goodness for little things that keep the memories of our loved ones alive. Even something like cinnamon raisin toast :)

"Serve God by Serving Others" - Our Prophet and a few apostles share beautiful examples of service they've witnessed through out their lives. And this article also made me think of my Grandpa...who was the recipient of years of selfless service from my Uncle EksAyne (his son) and my Aunt Patty (his daughter-in-law) as they took him into their home after he was no longer independent due to his health. What a true labor of love :)

That's so beautiful. I know exactly what you mean... My grandpa passed away 4 years ago, and every time I smell cigars it takes me back to all the times it was just me and him together

You just warmed my heart. Both sets of my grandparents are still alive, and my Grandma Handley (my mom's mom) is an amazing baker. Every Christmas she makes an assortment of different very unique, and delicious cookies. She lives in New Jersey, but each time I make one of them I think of her and feel so much closer to her. I remember her teaching me her secret baking tips, like scraping the last bits of egg out of each egg shell and to put something away once you're done using it so your counter doesn't get cluttered. I love that you have a reminder like that of your wonderful Grandpa. :) Grandparents are such sweet gifts to have touch our lives.

Beautiful. I am filled with wonder when I come across a smell that reminds me of my mom. It's amazing what our sense of smell can do to remind us of long forgotten memories. I'm glad you have sweet memories of your grandpa and that he got to meet your little boy.

35 years apart? It makes me tear up thinking about it. I'm so glad he could be with his sweetheart again.

How sweet! I love how memories are tied to our senses...it's like a sweet little surprise each time we remember something, right? How wonderful that he was able to meet little Brooks before going to be with his loving wife again!

Happy Tuesday, Haley!
